Colorado Rockies SP Aaron Cook allowed two runs on five hits over six innings Friday, Aug. 29, against the San Diego Padres, according to The Associated Press. He walked two and struck out three, to improve to 16-8 on the season. Cook won his 10th road game of the year, to tie Brandon Webb of the Arizona Diamondbacks for the National League lead, and became just the fifth pitcher in franchise history - and the first since Jason Jennings in 2002 - to win 16 games in a season.

An important outing for Cook, who hadn't made it through six innings in any of his previous four starts this month after averaging better than seven innings per start in July. While his 6.75 ERA in August entering Friday is underwhelming to say the least, he should be thrown with confidence when he takes the hill next week vs. the Giants -- a team he's compiled a 3.00 ERA against in three starts this year.
