Cardinals signed pitching coach Dave Duncan to a one-year contract extension. Duncan, the longest-tenured pitching coach in MLB history, also has a mutual option for 2010. Wainwright ends the year having won each of his last six decisions, dating back to June 7. It's been an injury-plagued, yet promising campaign for Wainwright, who'll finish the season with a 3.20 ERA and a 91/34 K/BB ratio over 132 innings.
Shaking off five walks, Adam Wainwright held the Diamondbacks to two runs over six innings in a win Wednesday. As usual, Arizona failed to capitalize on plenty of chances to score. Wainwright allowed seven hits to go along with the five walks. He also hit a batter and threw a wild pitch. Still, the Diamondbacks scored just twice off them, with one of the runs coming on a double play. Wainwright concludes the season 11-3 with a 3.20 ERA.
The Associated Press reports St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright gave up seven hits while walking five in seven innings Wednesday, Sept. 24. He is 7-1 at home this year and has won his last six decisions. Wainwright has not lost since June 2.
News: Adam Wainwright pitched out of two bases-loaded jams and the St. Louis Cardinals beat Arizona 4-2 on Wednesday night to dampen the Diamondbacks' playoff hopes. Wainwright (11-3) pitched into the seventh inning, allowing seven hits and five walks. Wainwright, 7-1 at home this year, has won his last six decisions and hasn't lost since June 2. He was sidelined from June 8 to Aug. 22 by a middle finger sprain.
Analysis: Wainwright has been injury prone this season but he has also emerged as a potential ace for the Cardinals. His 2008 is over but he heads into 2009 as a No. 2 or No. 3 Fantasy option as a starter
