The Associated Press reports St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright (back) was bothered by back spasms in the hotel before his start Tuesday, Sept. 2, and needed therapy before the game. He said his back stiffened up when he ran the bases in the fifth inning and left the game soon after. "I do this several times a year so I knew I could get through it," he said. "It kind of works in my favor because there is no way I can pop out of my pitches too early. I made sure I stayed through my delivery the whole time."

The Associated Press reports St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright, pitching in just his third start since returning from 2 1/2 months on the disabled list with a finger sprain, shut out the Arizona Diamondbacks through five innings. He struck out seven and walked two, yielding three hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Wainwright's looked very impressive since returning from the disabled list Aug. 4, as he's gone 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA and a 13/2 K/BB ratio over 17 1/3 innings in that span. Start the 26-year-old right-hander with confidence when he next toes the rubber, likely Sept. 9 at home against the Cubs.

Adam Wainwright yielded one run and three hits in 5 1/3 innings Tuesday in a victory over the Diamondbacks. Wainwright helped his case with a two-run double, but he didn't really need to in an 8-2 victory. He gave up just three hits and struck out seven while improving to 8-3. Wainwright will get the Cubs in two of his next three starts, but he'll be worth playing in mixed leagues anyway.

Adam Wainwright was excellent for the Cardinals in their 8-2 win over the Diamondbacks, going 5.1 innings and giving up just one run on three hits while striking out seven.Another solid outing by Wainwright, whose ERA dropped to 2.97 on the year. Had he been healthy all season, he could have posted some great numbers. Fantasy owners will just have to wait until next year for that.
