Alberto Callaspo was not in the Royals lineup on Thursday because he injured his thigh while sliding into home on Monday, according to Royals.com.The injury is not serious, and Callaspo will return to the lineup for the team's final series of the year against the Twins.

He was injured as he slid into home plate in the fifth inning on Monday night, scoring on Mike Aviles' single. He stayed in the game until the eighth inning, when Tony Pena Jr. went into the game and Aviles shifted from shortstop to Callaspo's second-base spot. He's currently in the midst of a 16-game hitting streak and is considered day-to-day.

Twins closer Joe Nathan was not called onto close the game against the Royals but was right in the middle of it in the dugout. The ball didn't hit Nathan but he had a big smile on his face after the fact.That would have been the last thing the Twins would have need in a division race. The Royals have been pleased with Alberto Callaspo and he is among the players getting an extended look in the final month of the season, according to the KC Star. Manager Trey Hillman said, "The thing I’ve seen that surprised me a little bit isn’t the contact ratio right-handed, but the authority of the contact right-handed. I mean the hard contact. He’s driven a couple of balls right-handed that we didn’t see in spring training, that we have not seen in evaluating his right-handed swing."He could be the Royals' second baseman of the future, but the club is believed to be targeting a middle infielder in the off-season free agent market.
