There was no explanation as to how Jones sustained the injury, though it is not the knee on which he underwent surgery to repair torn cartilage earlier this season. Manager Joe Torre said he hoped that Jones would be able to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas by the start of next week, and admitted that rushing the veteran outfielder back from his prior injury "could have been" a mistake. Meanwhile, Garciaparra returns to the lineup for the first time since being sidelined July 28.

News: The Los Angeles Dodgers activated infielder Nomar Garciaparra from the disabled list Tuesday and placed center fielder Andruw Jones on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Aug. 10.
Analysis: Jones, laboring through the worst season of his 13-year career, has soreness in his left knee. The five-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner is batting .161 in 74 games with three home runs and 14 RBIs in the first year of a $36.2 million, two-year contract. He underwent surgery May 27 to repair torn cartilage in his right knee. "It's been going on for a few days with him, and I told him if it doesn't get any better, with Nomar coming back, this was probably one of the options we have. And he was OK with it," manager Joe Torre said. He has gone from being a viable Fantasy OF to pretty much nothing

Dodgers placed outfielder Andruw Jones on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Aug. 10, with a sore left knee. Andruw is fine to play, but it makes more sense to let him get at-bats in the minors than to have him rot on the Dodgers' bench. He's hitting .161/.261/.254 in 205 at-bats this season.

The Los Angeles Daily News confirms that Andruw Jones will be placed on the 15-day disabled list. The move will be made to make room for Nomar Garciaparra, who will be activated prior to Tuesday night's game. The team says they may have made a mistake in activating Jones too early from his last stint on the DL, a drop in the bucket compared to the mistake of signing him in the first place.Source: Los Angeles Daily News Related: Nomar Garciaparra

Manager Joe Torre said Monday that Andruw Jones (knee) may be placed on the disabled list to make room on the roster for Nomar Garciaparra. According to Torre, the patella tendon in Jones' right knee is sore, yet "it has nothing to do with" his previous surgery to repair torn cartilage in the same knee. Garciaparra is expected to come off the DL prior to Tuesday's game and placing Jones on the shelf could give the Dodgers an opportunity to send him to the minors for a rehab stint.Source: Los Angeles Times Related: Nomar Garciaparra

News: Dodgers INF Nomar Garciaparra is expected to be activated Tuesday, the first day he is eligible to come off the disabled list. He has been sidelined since July 28 with a left knee strain. CF Andruw Jones might replace Garciaparra on the DL because of soreness in his surgically repaired right knee.
Analysis: Jones has missed the last two games and has made just two starts in August. Jones has already been on the DL in 2008 and has been one of the biggest free-agent busts in MLB history. He has gone from being a viable Fantasy OF to pretty much nothing
