Juan C. Rodriguez, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, reports Florida Marlins SP Anibal Sanchez could possibly lose his spot in the rotation next season if the team signs free-agent SP Carl Pavano (Yankees).
Returning from rotator cuff surgery on July 31, Sanchez struggled to regain his footing on the mound, unlike teammates Josh Johnson or Ricky Nolasco. Sanchez's toughest task in 2009 will be to prove he can last all year in Florida's rotation.
Returning from rotator cuff surgery on July 31, Sanchez struggled to regain his footing on the mound, unlike teammates Josh Johnson or Ricky Nolasco. More road bumps lie ahead for the 24-year-old right-hander, whose toughest 2009 task will be proving he can last all year in Florida's rotation.
Because his start Thursday was rained out, Anibal Sanchez will spend the rest of the year in the bullpen. The Marlins will start Chris Volstad, Ricky Nolasco and Scott Olsen this weekend against the Mets.
News: Florida SP Anibal Sanchez was scheduled to start on Thursday against the Washington Nationals but the game was canceled due to rain and will not be made up. Sanchez's turn will be skipped and he'll go into the bullpen.
Analysis: Sanchez finished his 2008 -- as a starter -- with a 2-5 record and a 5.57 ERA. He's a nice young starter who will battle for a rotation spot with the Marlins next Spring
