Updating previous reports, Cleveland Indians SP Anthony Reyes (elbow) will miss at least one start due to right elbow soreness, according to The Associated Press.
The Cleveland Indians have recalled SP Scott Lewis from Double-A Akron, according to The Associated Press. He will make his major league debut Wednesday, Sept. 10, against the Baltimore Orioles. Lewis replaces SP Anthony Reyes (elbow) in the starting rotation.
News: The Indians recalled Scott Lewis from Double-A Akron and the left-hander will start in his major league debut Wednesday at Baltimore. Lewis, who was 6-2 with a 2.33 ERA in 13 starts with the Aeros, takes the spot of Anthony Reyes, who will miss at least one start with a sore right elbow. Reyes left his start Friday at Kansas City after only three innings with elbow stiffness. Lewis strained a muscle during spring training and did not pitch until June 6. He went a combined 8-4 with a 2.40 ERA with Akron and Triple-A Buffalo. The 24-year-old Lewis will become the 12th starter and the 26th pitcher used by the Indians this season.
Analysis: Reyes is a tough loss in deeper leagues. He has been great of late, but the Indians will be cautious with their young starter. Consider him a must-sit in Fantasy Week 24 (Sept. 8-14) at this point
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Lewis will start on Wednesday in place of Anthony Reyes, who will miss the start with soreness in his elbow.Lewis is a "crafty" lefty who has been superb between Double-A and Triple-A this season, posting a 2.40 ERA in 17 starts. He could have some late-season value if he sticks in the rotation.
News: Indians SP Anthony Reyes will likely miss his Wednesday start at Baltimore because of a sore elbow. The right-hander left his start Friday at Kansas City after three scoreless innings and 39 pitches due to elbow stiffness. "There's a pretty good chance we'll skip his next start," manager Eric Wedge said on Saturday. If Reyes does not start, the Indians will likely call up left-hander Scott Lewis, who is 6-2 with a 2.33 ERA in 13 starts at Double-A Akron, which is in the Eastern League playoffs.
Analysis: Reyes said his elbow felt better on Saturday, but the Indians will likely be cautious because of his prior elbow problems. He was on the Cardinals disabled list earlier this season with an elbow injury. The elbow was "a little stiff" warming up Friday, Reyes said. "I tried to do everything I could to loosen up, but it just wasn't happening. We're just being cautious and trying not to push it too much. It felt pretty good my last few starts. This is kind of a new thing." Reyes is 2-1 with a 1.83 ERA in six starts with the Indians since being acquired in a July 26 trade with the Cardinals. He has emerged as a solid sleeper in AL-only and deeper mixed leagues, but reserve him in light of this injury
