MLB.coms Anthony Castrovince writes the Kansas City Royals might be interested in Cleveland Indians OF Ben Francisco as a center fielder if they were to trade OF Mark Teahen to the Indians.

The Kansas City Star reports that the Royals and Indians are discussing a deal involving Mark Teahen. Other players in the deal may include either Franklin Gutierrez, Ben Francisco or minor-leaguer Trevor Crowe.Teahen has been mostly disappointing after the Royals had expected bigger things from the third baseman. The Indians have a hole at the hot-corner and would like to fill it sooner rather than later.

Francisco proved he can hold down an everyday job for the time being, at least until the Indians decide top prospect Matt LaPorta ready for action. Franklin Gutierrez and David Dellucci can share time in right field if Francisco stumbles next year.

Ben Francisco went hitless in the loss to Boston on Wednesday, leaving him with a .189 average this month. Francisco is hitting .240/.306/.398 in 196 at-bats since the All-Star break. His fade should cause the Indians to go back to looking at him as a fourth outfielder for 2009. They'll probably look for a regular left fielder to go along with Grady Sizemore and Shin-Soo Choo. Either Francisco or Franklin Gutierrez can platoon with Choo, but the Indians shouldn't need both.
