CBSSports.com's Scott Miller reports the Atlanta Braves are offering a four-player package for San Diego Padres SP Jake Peavy. The Padres are expected to request that Peavy waive his no-trade clause so the trade can be completed. The Braves would send SS Yunel Escobar, OF Gorkys Hernandez, either SP Charlie Morton or SP Jo-Jo Reyes and either RP Blaine Boyer or one of two minor league left-handers to the Padres. One of those minor leaguers is believed to be P Jeff Locke. The Padres are said to prefer Morton and Boyer. The Braves are pressuring the Padres for an answer by Friday, Nov. 14.
CBS Sports is reporting that the Atlanta Braves are offering a four-player package for starter Jake Peavy. San Diego is expected to request that Peavy waive his no-trade clause very soon so the deal can be completed. Under terms of the deal discussed by the Braves and Padres, San Diego would receive shortstop Yunel Escobar, Single-A outfielder Gorkys Hernandez, one of two starting pitchers - Charlie Morton or Jo-Jo Reyes - and either reliever Blaine Boyer or one of two minor-league left-handers (one of which is believed to be Jeff Locke). Again, Peavy must ok the move, and some believe he would rather play in Chicago for the Cubs. The Braves have been pressuring the Padres for an answer by Friday, when the free agent market opens, because they need at least two starters - and they want to know whether Peavy will be a Brave before they dive in. They are expected to pursue A.J. Burnett, Ryan Dempster and others. Peavy, 27, won the NL Cy Young award following the 2007 season in a unanimous vote. Though a strained elbow shelved him for part of 2008, he still compiled a 2.85 ERA in 27 starts, finishing 10-11 for a Padres club that lost 99 games. He has compiled ERAs of 2.88 or lower in four of the past five seasons.
If Boyer is able to live up to his tremendous promise and both Moylan and Soriano return to form while coming back from elbow surgery, a weakness in 2008 could be the Braves' strength in 2009.
None.
Numbers in parenthesis for each team indicates total runs scored that game. Numbers next to each pitcher indicates earned runs.
The run differential is based on total runs each team scored when Blaine Boyer has a decision. (i.e. win/loss) Similarly, the opposing pitcher listed also received a decision.
