Trading John Danks to the White Sox for Brandon McCarthy still pains Rangers owner Tom Hicks, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "Our staff made the judgment that Danks was two years away, and they were absolutely wrong. The comforting thing for me now is we have a new leader, and if Nolan had been there, we never would have done [the Danks deal]. And we will never trade a No. 1 pick, a left-handed pitcher again," Hicks said.Nolan Ryan is now the team president, and Texas general manager Jon Daniels is basically powerless, the paper reports. Trading young pitching to "win now" is almost never a good idea, and though it works sometimes, there are too many examples where it went wrong. Just see St. Louis trading Dan Haren for Mark Mulder, or the Mets trading Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano for two quick examples.

Rangers.MLB.com's Shawn Shroyer reports Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said SP Brandon McCarthy (hand) may throw some bullpen sessions but probably won't start again this season.
News: Manager Ron Washington told the Dallas Morning News that RHP Brandon McCarthy will not pitch for the rest of the season.
Analysis: McCarthy remains an annual sleeper, but you will have injury-risk as a modifier here for spring 2009. He could challenge for 12-plus victories next season, especially behind that offense, but we are not sure you can trust him to go over 180 innings -- much less 200-plus
Manager Ron Washington said Monday that Brandon McCarthy (finger) won't pitch again this season. McCarthy had been hoping to make it back for the Rangers' final series after an MRI exam revealed a strained flexor tendon in his right middle finger. He finishes 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA and 10/8 K/BB ratio in five starts after missing most of the season with a forearm injury.Source: Dallas Morning News
