Correcting a previous item, The Associated Press’ Rob Maaddi reports Los Angeles Dodgers SP Derek Lowe was tagged with the loss in Game 1 of the NLCS Thursday night, Oct. 9, despite pitching well for most of his outing against the Philadelphia Phillies. He wound up yielding three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings, with two strikeouts. All the damage came in the sixth on a pair of homers, with the first, a game-tying two-run homer by Phillies 2B Chase Utley, coming on the heels of a throwing error by Dodgers SS Rafael Furcal. “Utley is a pretty good hitter,” said Dodgers manager Joe Torre. “I don’t think the error had anything to do with what happened after that.”
