Doug Mathis will undergo right shoulder surgery to have his bursa sac removed according to the Star-Telegram. He should begin throwing again in two months.Mathis had made four starts for the big league club, but was very ineffective. He ends his season with a 6.85 ERA nad a 2.28 WHIP.
Rangers voided the option of RHP Doug Mathis to Triple-A Oklahoma and placed him on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Aug. 11, with right shoulder inflammation. Mathis had been on the DL with the same problem since June 20 when the Rangers activated him and optioned him to Triple-A on Aug. 12. With this move, the team acknowledges that he was still injured at that time and guarantees him the major league salary and service time he should have earned.
