The pitching-starved Braves signed Dessens on Aug. 27 with the hope that he'd continue the success he enjoyed this year in the Mexican League. But in four appearances, with his last coming on Sept. 13, the 37-year-old veteran posted a 22.50 ERA and allowed opponents to compile a .500 batting average with a .538 on-base percentage.

News: The Atlanta Braves added a veteran arm Friday, activating Elmer Dessens two days after agreeing to terms with the right-hander.

Analysis: He was signed for the remainder of the 2008 season after going 10-2 with a 4.03 ERA in 20 starts with the Mexico City Red Devils of the Mexican League. He has very limited Fantasy appeal at this time and should be left on the waiver wire
