The Akron Beacon Journal reports that the pain in Fausto Carmona's hip is no longer bothering the right-hander and he will take up where he left off in his throwing program. ''Fausto will play catch tomorrow,'' manager Eric Wedge said. ''He will have to go through some of [what he already had completed] that again, but he won't start from ground zero.''Before the hip set him back in his rehab work, Carmona was ready to begin his minor league rehab starts. There still hasn't been any talk about when the Indians' starter will be back in the rotation.

Cleveland reports RHP Fausto Carmona , listed on the team's 15-day disables list since May 24th, has been shut down for the last week and will be given a full medical evaluation on Monday, according to MLB.com.Carmona had completed a three-inning simulated game and reported soreness in his hip the following day. Carmona (4-2, 3.10 ERA) was originally scheduled to go out on a minor league rehab assignment over the weekend, but that plan was scrapped when the soreness set in.

Indians SP Fausto Carmona is expected to be sidelined four weeks with a strained left hip. An MRI exam revealed a moderate strain of an exterior muscle in Carmona's left hip, Lonnie Soloff, Cleveland's head athletic trainer, said Sunday. "The good news is that there was no damage to the interior, which would have been much more serious," Soloff said. "If all goes well, Fausto should be able to start playing catch in about seven days." The Indians are expected to activate right-hander Jake Westbrook to take Carmona's place in the rotation, which has an AL-best 3.21 ERA this season.

Fausto Carmona was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday by the Cleveland Indians because of a strained left hip. Carmona was injured as he ran to cover first base in the third inning of Cleveland's 13-9 loss to the Texas Rangers on Friday night. "We're not sure how long he'll be out," manager Eric Wedge said. "We're waiting to get MRI results and are hopeful it is not too serious." Carmona's injury occurred at about the same time that right-hander Jake Westbrook was pitching six scoreless innings during an injury rehabilitation assignment at Double-A Akron. Westbrook has been sidelined since April 22 with a strain near his left ribcage.

Indians SP Fausto Carmona, coming off a shutout and a start in which he allowed only one earned run at Cincinnati, allowed six runs, five hits and three walks over two innings Friday against the Rangers, striking out one and falling to 4-2. He also had to leave the game because of an injury. He strained his left hip covering first base on a ball hit by David Murphy to first baseman Ryan Garko. Carmona threw one strike to the next batter, Brandon Boggs, then backed off and called trainer Lonnie Soloff to the mound. Carmona flexed his left leg, threw one practice pitch, then walked off. He is day-to-day. "We'll know more (Saturday)," manager Eric Wedge said. "He'll get an MRI, but he was not able to stay in the game, so obviously it is fairly serious."

Fausto Carmona (hip) played catch from 75 feet on Saturday. Carmona made 60 throws in all. He plans to increase the distance of his long-toss session to 105 feet on Monday and will move onto some bullpen sessions shortly thereafter.
