Geary, a 32-year-old right-hander, was in Philadelphia for repairs to a right hip adductor injury and a torn abdominal muscle. Sampson, a 30-year-old right-hander, had surgery to repair a lateral extensor tendon in his throwing elbow. He went 6-4 with a 4.22 ERA in a career-high 54 appearances, including 11 starts. Both operations were Wednesday.
Analysis: Geary, who is expected to recover in four-to-six weeks and be ready for spring training, went 2-3 with a career-low 2.53 ERA in 55 appearances he was acquired from Philadelphia. Consider him nothing more than a low-end middle reliever for the deepest of NL-only leagues that use true middle men at this point in his career

Alyson Footer, of MLB.com, reports Houston Astros RP Geoff Geary (groin) underwent surgery to fix a right hip abductor Wednesday, Oct. 1. During the surgery, a tear to the abdomen was also found and fixed. Recovery time for Geary is expected to be four to six weeks.
