Greg Maddux allowed four runs - two earned - in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss in his second appearance for the Dodgers on Wednesday. One of the unearned runs scored on an error by Maddux. He's now given up 11 runs in 11 innings since joining the Dodgers. The team is 1-8, including their current six-game losing streak. Maddux will improve, but a dramatic recovery shouldn't be expected: Maddux had a 5.28 away from Petco over the past two seasons.
Certainly an improvement over Maddux's debut with Los Angeles, when he was shelled by the Philles for seven earned runs over 5 2/3 innings. The veteran right-hander has been solid but not spectacular this month, going 2-3 with a 3.90 ERA over 30 innings of work. He's a decent option when he next gets the ball, Sept. 1 at home against the Padres.
News: Tim Redding outpitched Greg Maddux to send the Los Angeles Dodgers to a season-high sixth consecutive loss -- 5-4 on Wednesday night against the Washington Nationals. Maddux (6-11) allowed two earned runs and four overall on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. In the third inning, a rare defensive lapse by Maddux led to a run. With runners on first and third and one out, Maddux, who walked one and didn't record a strikeout, fielded Lastings Milledge's comebacker and threw to second in an attempt to start a double play. The throw sailed high, landing in the glove of second baseman Jeff Kent backing up the play. Kent's throw to first was too late to catch Milledge, and Willie Harris came home to score the tying run before Ronnie Belliard's RBI single gave Washington a 3-2 lead.
Analysis: Maddux has lost three straight starts, the last two since joining the Dodgers. He has allowed 11 runs (nine earned) since returning to Los Angeles and hasn't exactly been the acquisition the Dodgers hoped for. He remains a decent low-end mixed-league option because he pitches for a competitive team despite his recent struggles. His next scheduled start is for Monday against the Padres. He is on track to be a two-start pitcher Fantasy Week 23 (Sept. 1-7) with his second start coming against the Diamondbacks
MLB.com reports Los Angeles Dodgers SP Greg Maddux (6-10, 4.25 ERA) will start Wednesday, Aug. 27, against the Washington Nationals.
In his first start as a Dodger, Greg Maddux didn't have the results he or the Dodgers were hoping for. He took the loss against the Phillies only going 5.2 innings. Tonight Maddux will square off against the Nationals in his second start for the Dodgers.Even though Maddux's ERA has climbed above 4.00 it might be worth starting him against the last place Nats.

News: Dodgers SP Greg Maddux, who was traded from San Diego on Tuesday, allowed seven runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings in his first start with the Dodgers on Friday at Philadelphia, which happened to be one of his worst outings of the season. He walked one and struck out four, taking his 10th loss of the season. The right-hander remained stuck on 353 wins, one shy of tying Roger Clemens for eighth on the career list.
Analysis: Maddux, who was 6-3 with a 3.30 ERA in 12 starts in his first stint with the Dodgers in 2006, allowed more than nine hits only three times in 26 starts with the Padres this season. He had a 1.89 ERA in his last three starts entering Friday's game, though, so Fantasy owners had to expect a little more from him in his first start with his new team. He remains a decent low-end mixed-league option because he pitches for a competitive team. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday at Washington
The Associated Press reports Los Angeles Dodgers SP Greg Maddux gave up seven runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings Friday, Aug. 22, in his first start with the team. Maddux remains one win shy of tying free-agent SP Roger Clemens (Yankees) for eighth on the career list. Maddux gave up more than nine hits only three times in 26 starts with the San Diego Padres this year.
It was an ugly performance for Maddux in his first start with the Dodgers. This wasn't surprising, though, considering Maddux posted a 5.75 ERA in 12 road starts with the Padres. He should only be started when he makes starts at Dodger Stadium, PETCO Park and AT&T Park, where he has a combined 2.42 ERA in 106 innings. Sit him on Aug. 27 at Nationals Park.
Greg Maddux surrendered seven earned runs over 5 2/3 innings and took the loss Friday in his debut with the 2008 Dodgers. Maddux allowed nine hits while walking one. He served up two multi-run homers and lasted just 76 pitches. The Dodgers should expect a little better out of Maddux. Hopefully he can please them somewhat when he faces the Nationals next week. As of now, he's 6-10 with a 4.25 ERA.
In his first start for the Dodgers this season, Greg Maddux did not impress, throwing 5.2 innings and allowing seven runs on nine hits to the Phillies, who won the game 8-1.Not a good outing for Maddux. He still has fantasy value in NL-only leagues, and playing for the Dodgers should help to increase his win total.
Greg Maddux will make his first start for the Dodgers on Friday night in Philadelphia. In addition to getting Maddux, the Dodgers also acquired about $1.3 million from the Padres, leaving them on the hook for only $900,000 of his remaining salary. The team will send Eric Stults to the minors to make space on the 25-man roster, and Scott Proctor will be put on the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster.Source: Los Angeles Daily News Related: Scott Proctor, Eric Stults
Greg Maddux will resume his Dodgers career when he starts on Friday night in Philadelphia, according to MLB.com.Manager Joe Torre prefers to hold Maddux over for the opener of a series against the Phillies to having him face the Rockies at Dodger Stadium. Maddux last pitched for San Diego on Friday night, when he lost to the Phillies, but he limited them to a Pat Burrell solo home run in seven innings with four strikeouts and no walks. He's 0-2 with a 2.70 ERA against the Phillies this year, and 2-0 with a 5.40 ERA against the Rockies.
Ken Gurnick, of MLB.com, reports Los Angeles Dodgers SP Greg Maddux is 1-7 with a 6.01 ERA in his career at Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is 3-11 with a 5.37 ERA against the Diamondbacks in his career.
Ken Gurnick, of MLB.com, reports Los Angeles Dodgers SP Greg Maddux will start Friday, Aug. 22, against the Philadelphia Phillies. He is 0-2 with a 2.70 ERA against the Phillies this season.
Tony Jackson, of the Los Angeles Daily News, reports Los Angeles Dodgers SP Greg Maddux will wear No. 36 with the team.
News: Greg Maddux is back in Los Angeles for another stretch drive. The Dodgers announced Tuesday that they have reacquired Maddux and cash considerations from San Diego. The Padres will receive two minor league players to be named or cash considerations. The 42-year-old Maddux first came to the Dodgers late in the 2006 season, when he went 6-3 with a 3.30 ERA in 12 starts to help them win a wild-card berth. This time, Los Angeles is dueling Arizona for the NL West lead. Maddux is 6-9 with a 3.99 ERA this season, and has 353 career wins.
Analysis: Maddux has posted three consecutive quality starts and can be a winner down the stretch with the contending Dodgers for your Fantasy team. Owned in only 50 percent of CBSSports.com's Fantasy leagues, he is a bargain right now. Take the flier on him for his improved contending situation. He should start for the Dodgers on Friday or Saturday of his week and pitch against Arizona in a first-place duel in Fantasy Week 22 (Aug. 25-31)
Ken Gurnick, of MLB.com, reports the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers will share SP Greg Maddux's remaining $2.3 million left on his $10 million contract for the rest of the 2008 season.
Updating a previous report, The Sports Network reports the San Diego Padres will receive two minor league players to be named later or cash considerations from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for SP Greg Maddux and cash considerations.
The Sports Network reports the Los Angeles Dodgers will receive cash considerations along with SP Greg Maddux from the San Diego Padres in exchange for two minor league players to be named later or cash considerations.
Maddux, who is 6-9 despite a 3.99 ERA, got minimal run support from the punchless Padres offense. In Los Angeles, he'll have the backing of mighty Manny Ramirez, Matt Kemp and a solid supporting cast of bats that should help extend the future Hall of Famer's streak of double-digit wins to 21 seasons. Maddux makes a fine addition any mixed-league club looking for help in ERA and WHIP.
ESPN.com reports the San Diego Padres will receive two players to be named later from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for SP Greg Maddux, according to MLB.com.
Dodgers acquired RHP Greg Maddux for two players to be named later or cash considerations from the San Diego Padres. Maddux was 6-3 with a 3.30 ERA in 12 starts with the Dodgers in the second half of 2006. So far this year, he's 6-9 with a 3.99 ERA for the Padres, but that comes with a 5.75 ERA outside of Petco.Related: Padres
The Los Angeles Times reports that the Padres will receive two players to be named later from the Dodgers in exchange for Greg Maddux. Acquiring Maddux in mid-2006 cost the Dodgers shortstop Cesar Izturis and Maddux went 6-3 with a 3.30 ERA in 12 starts. With Brad Penny likely out for the season he'll slide into the rotation after going 6-9 with a 3.99 ERA for the Padres.Source: Los Angeles Times Related: Dodgers
News: SP Greg Maddux is headed back to the Dodgers. San Diego and Los Angeles agreed to a trade that puts the 353-game winner in a pennant race again, according to a person familiar with the deal who spoke on condition of anonymity Monday night because no announcement had been made. It was unclear what the last-place Padres would receive in return for the 42-year-old Maddux, who will join a Dodgers team tied with Arizona atop the NL West. The right-hander is 6-9 with a 3.99 ERA in 26 starts for San Diego this year. The trade, first reported by the Los Angeles Times on its Web site, was expected to be announced Tuesday.
Analysis: Going to a contender would only improve Maddux's Fantasy appeal, but the Dodgers aren't exactly an offensive juggernaut. Still, he keeps his WHIP low enough for this deal to renew his Fantasy appeal. Consider taking a flier on him in mixed leagues
Acquiring Maddux for the stretch run two years ago worked for LA once, so why not try it again? Maddux is a tough-luck 6-9 with 11 no-decisions and a 3.99 ERA for San Diego and would replace an injured Brad Penny in the team's starting rotation. Maddux earns $10 million this season and had told the Padres the only club for which he would waive his no-trade clause would be the Dodgers, because he wanted to remain close to his Orange County home. Stay tuned.
FOXSports.com reports San Diego Padres SP Greg Maddux was dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday, Aug. 18.
FOXSports.com reports the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired SP Greg Maddux from the San Diego Padres Monday, Aug. 18, according to the Los Angeles Times. He is expected to join the Dodgers Tuesday, Aug. 19.
The Los Angeles times reports the Dodgers have acquired Greg Maddux from the Padres. Maddux cleared waivers, but Los Angeles was the only place he'd agree to go. It's unknown what Los Angeles gave up. He's just 6-9, and while that comes with a 3.99 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP, Maddux has a 5.75 ERA away from Petco. Still, he was 6-3 with a 3.30 ERA pitching for the Dodgers back in 2006. He'll likely fill the rotation spot of Brad Penny.Source: Los Angeles Times Related: Dodgers, Padres
The Dodgers have acquired Greg Maddux from the Padres, according to the LA Times. It is not known what the Dodgers are giving up in the deal.It had looked like this long-rumored deal wouldn't get done, but it looks like the Pads and Dodgers worked it out. Maddux gets to stay on the West Coast like he wanted and will get to pitch for a contender.
News: The Sports Xchange reports that Padres SP Greg Madddux will get an extra day of rest this week as he is switching spots in the rotation with Chad Reineke. Maddux will now start Friday against the Giants, while Reineke will go Thursday against the Diamondbacks. Maddux's 30 wins against the Giants tie him with Phil Niekro and Don Sutton for the most wins against the Giants since they set up shop in San Francisco in 1958. And Maddux is 7-1 with a 2.56 ERA in nine starts at AT&T Park, including a 1-0 record with 2.08 ERA in two starts this season.
Analysis: The Giants are obviously a lot better matchup than the Diamondbacks for Maddux, so those of you who took a flier on the veteran in Fantasy Week 21 (Aug. 18-24) should be rewarded nicely on Friday. Reineke had a decent debut last week, but the Diamondbacks are a solid hitting team and Reineke should continue to be ignored in everything but the largest of NL-only formats
San Diego Padres SP Greg Maddux allowed one run on five hits over seven innings Friday, Aug. 15, against the Philadelphia Phillies, according to The Associated Press. He walked none and struck out four, but fell to 6-9 on the season.
Maddux, who lost simply because he ran into Jamie Moyer on the wrong day, submitted his fourth consecutive quality outing. He's 3-0 in his last four starts and has allowed eight earned runs in 24 innings with a stellar 13/1 K/BB ratio. Be very cautious going forward though, as his next start will come against Arizona -- a team that's tuned him up for 13 earned runs in 12 innings this season.
News: Jamie Moyer outpitched fellow 40-something Greg Maddux for seven innings, and the Philadelphia Phillies snapped a four-game skid with a 1-0 win over the San Diego Padres on Friday night. Maddux (6-9) allowed one run on five hits and struck out four. Pat Burrell homered in the seventh inning, his 28th of the season, to break up the scoreless game. Maddux faced trouble just once. Ryan Howard led off the second with a double and went to third on a one-out single by Geoff Jenkins. But Eric Bruntlett popped up and Carlos Ruiz flew out to right.
Analysis: Maddux missed a chance to tie Roger Clemens for eighth place on the career wins list with 354. Maddux had his three-start win streak snapped, but he surely pitched well enough to win Friday. Maddux pitches for an awful Padres team and usually doesn't go deep into games, so don't expect him to win many more games this season. Consider him a low-end Fantasy SP. His next scheduled start is for Wednesday against the Diamondbacks
Greg Maddux pitched well Friday, allowing only one run on five hits while striking out four over seven innings. However, it wasn't enough, as fellow veteran Jamie Moyer pitched the Phils to a 1-0 win.Maddux deserves to get to double-digit wins again, but it doesn't look like he's going to get there.
Jamie Moyer won the old geezer battle Friday, tossing seven shutout innings to beat Greg Maddux and the Padres. With a 3.64 ERA over 25 starts, the 45-year-old Moyer is putting together his best season since 2003.
Maddux, who lost simply because he ran into Jamie Moyer on the wrong day, submitted his fourth consecutive quality outing. He's 3-0 in his last four starts and has allowed eight earned runs in 24 innings with a stellar 13/1 K/BB ratio in that period. Be very cautious going forward though, as his next start will come against Arizona -- a team that's tuned him up for 13 earned runs in 12 innings this season.
Greg Maddux was tagged with the loss after surrendering one run in seven innings to the Phillies on Friday night. Maddux struck out four without issuing a walk, his only mistake coming on a Pat Burrell homer. The solid outing takes his ERA down to 3.99 on the season.
Corey Brock, of MLB.com, reports San Diego Padres SP Greg Maddux is one win away from tying free-agent SP Roger Clemens (Yankees) for eighth on the all-time win list. Maddux recorded his 16th win against the Colorado Rockies Saturday, Aug. 9, which tied him with Arizona Diamondbacks SP Randy Johnson for the most wins against the Rockies.
San Diego Padres SP Greg Maddux allowed two runs on six hits over six innings Saturday, Aug. 9, against the Colorado Rockies, according to The Associated Press. He walked one and struck out four, improving to 6-8 on the season.
News: Padres SP Greg Maddux pitched brilliantly Saturday at Colorado. He allowed two runs on four hits through six innings, and three of those hits were wiped out by double-play balls. He struck out four and walked one in winning his third straight start. The winning streak comes after a stretch of 14 starts where he was 0-5. "He was deserving of a lot of wins in that period," manager Bud Black said. "It's good to see him win three in a row."
Analysis: Maddux pitches for an awful Padres team and usually doesn't go deep into games, so don't expect him to win many more games this season. He can help your team's WHIP, though. His next start is scheduled for Friday against the Phillies
While rumors swirl of a potential move, San Diego RHP Greg Maddux keeps on keeping on, going six innings to allow just two runs (both earned) on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts in the 8-3 win over the Rockies. The Dodgers are rumored to be pursuing Maddux after he cleared waivers, but tonight he was getting it done once again for the Padres. That's three consecutive wins for the veteran hurler (certainly helping his value), touting just one walk versus nine strikeouts over the span.
Greg Maddux surrendered two runs over six innings in a victory over the Rockies on Saturday. After Maddux left, Padres manager Bud Black used six relievers to finish off an 8-3 victory, with Trevor Hoffman picking his 25th save in 28 opportunities after Bryan Corey and Cla Meredith struggled to open the ninth. Maddux has won three straight starts after going a career-high 14 straight without a victory.
Maddux won his third straight start as he attempts to extend his streak of consecutive seasons with 10 or more wins to 21. The 42-year-old right-hander is now 6-8 with a 4.12 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and a 76/26 K/BB ratio in 146 1/3 innings over 25 starts. Maddux's next scheduled start is August 15 at home vs. Philadelphia.
San Diego Padres' starter Greg Maddux cleared waivers on Thursday and the Dodgers remain very interested in acquiring the future Hall of Famer, according to ESPN.com.There was no indication whether the Dodgers had contacted the Padres about a possible deal on Thursday, but we anticipate there will be news coming forth on this in the very near future. Teams are preparing for the stretch towards the playoffs and a veteran arm this reliable is not easy to find. The Dodgers may head the pack, but other teams may come calling (though we can't imagine Maddux working in the American League). Stay tuned.
The Los Angeles Times' Dylan Hernandez reports San Diego Padres SP Greg Maddux has cleared waivers.
San Diego Padres SP Greg Maddux allowed one run on two hits over six innings Sunday, Aug. 3, against the San Francisco Giants, according to The Associated Press. He walked none and struck out one, improving to 5-8 on the season.
Greg Maddux won his second straight start as he picked career victory number 352 against the Giants. Maddux allowed only two hits, he didn't walk a batter, as he held the G-men to one run over six innings. In his last 13 starts against the Giants Maddux hasn't lost once, and he is 30-14 against them in his career, so you had better have him in the lineup every time he faces the men from San Francisco.
Greg Maddux held the Giants to one run in six innings to record a win on Sunday. He gave up two hits, walked none, and struck out one. It's still possible that Maddux will be traded to the Dodgers this month, but he's going to have to go unclaimed on waivers until LA's turn is up. Complicating matters is that the Rockies would likely put in a claim on Maddux, if only to block him from going to the Dodgers.
For Maddux, that's two wins in his last two tries after failing to win a game for more than two and a half months. The elder statesman has given up five earned runs in 11 innings in the victories after a very poor July, during which he put together a 5.27 ERA. His overall 1.29 WHIP is quality, and he'll look to build on that when he throws next week vs. Colorado -- a team that's scored eight runs in 10 2/3 innings off him this season.
It will be difficult for the San Diego Padres to trade Greg Maddux, as Padres GM Kevin Towers is not optimistic he would get through waivers, according to Padres.com.The Padres were offered deals, but they deemed the prospects insufficient in order to get rid of Maddux. There is next to no chance a contending club would allow Maddux to get through waivers without being claimed, so it's a near certainty that he will stay put.
