News: Dodgers SP Hiroki Kuroda, looking to tune up before pitching Game 3 of the NL Division Series against the Cubs, allowed only two hits in five shutout innings Sunday at San Francisco. He recorded three strikeouts in the no decision.
Analysis: Kuroda gave up eight hits and three runs in only four innings in his last start, but he had a solid second half overall. He doesn't have knockout stuff but is a decent enough pitcher to fill out any Fantasy staff. His Fantasy value likely won't change going into next season
Hiroki Kuroda tossed five scoreless innings against the Giants today as the Dodgers ready for post-season play. Kuroda struck out three, walked none, and gave up just two hits. He ends the season 9-10 with a 3.73 ERA in 183 1/3 innings spread between 31 starts. Given MLB's definition he qualifies as a rookie and is worthy of a fourth or fifth place finish in the voting there. His 113/42 K/BB was nothing special, but Kuroda is a smart pitcher who benefits from Dodger Stadium quite a bit. A repeat in 2009 is likely, making Kuroda a particularly valuable asset in 4x4 leagues.
