Jurrjens is well worth considering for NL Rookie of the Year, but Geovany Soto and/or Joey Votto will probably have a thing or two to say about that. That said, it was an impressive year for the 22-year-old right-hander, whose effective sinker should enable him to carry his success into 2009.

Jair Jurrjens is going to skip his final start Sunday so Mike Hampton can get one more chance to prove what he can do, according to MLB.com.Jurrjens has pitched 188.1 innings this season, but is not tired and is still physically fine. He won 13 games this season with a 3.68 ERA and 1.37 WHIP and has nothing left to prove.

The move is a precautionary one, as Jurrjens appears to be physically sound but has thrown 45 more innings this year than in any previous professional season. Meanwhile, Hampton will be given one additional chance to prove himself as he prepares to face the free-agent market in the offseason.
