Padres pitcher Jake Peavy moved closer to returning from the disabled list after a successful bullpen session Wednesday. Peavy, the reigning NL Cy Young winner, threw 45 pitches off the mound in the bullpen before Wednesday's game against the Chicago Cubs and reported no pain in his strained right elbow. "I feel good," Peavy said. "Everything went well and everything is in place." Peavy was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 20, retroactive to May 15. He will be re-evaluated on Thursday. If Peavy gets clearance, he is scheduled to throw on Saturday in either a rehab assignment in the minors or a simulated game at Petco Park. "In Jake's case, he's not that far removed from pitching in a big league game," Padres manager Bud Black said. "A simulated game will just give him enough feel on his pitches."
