News: Trevor Hoffman blew the save after a terrific outing by SP Jake Peavy but Luis Rodriguez singled in the winning run in the ninth to give the San Diego Padres a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. Peavy had a season-high 13 strikeouts over eight shutout innings but Hoffman (3-6) surrendered a pinch-hit RBI single to Chris Iannetta that tied it at 1. Peavy reached double digits in strikeouts for the 27th time in his career and third time this season. He limited Colorado to five singles and walked two, throwing 114 pitches.
Analysis: Hoffman is now the brunt of many Peavy owners hatred as he was all but assured this win before the all-time saves leader blew it. And to make matters worse, this was far and away his best outing in some time. Consider him a must-start in deeper leagues, but he could be a candidate to sit if you have a solid two-start pitcher to use over him. He'll have a tough road ahead of him as he faces C.C. Sabathia in Milwaukee on Friday
