Nick Cafardo, of The Boston Globe, reports the Boston Red Sox have recently scouted Texas Rangers C Jarrod Saltalamacchia during his stint in the Dominican Republic Winter League.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia is playing winter ball this season and the Red Sox are scouting him, according to the Boston Globe.Saltalamacchia could probably be had through a trade as the Rangers are fairly deep at catcher. Boston is reluctant to bring back Jason Varitek at his $10 million per year asking price.

Bob Nightengale, of USA Today, reports the Texas Rangers could have a platoon at catcher next season between Cs Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Taylor Teagarden.

The Marlins are reportedly willing to trade highly-regarded pitching prospect Ryan Tucker to the Rangers to acquire Jarrod Saltalamacchia, according to BaseballProspectus.com.The Marlins covet a catcher to join John Baker, and also like the Rangers' Max Ramirez. Tucker would be a solid building block for a Rangers' organization in need of pitching help.
