Jason Davis became a free agent and may head to Japan, according to the Beaver County Times.The 28-year-old held a weak 5.29 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over 34 innings with the Pirates in 2008, and there is no guarantee he will fare better in Japan.
Jenifer Langosch, of MLB.com, reports Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jason Davis has declined his outright assignment and has become a free agent. The Pirates are still hopeful that they can re-sign Davis.
Huntington continues to express optimism that the Bucs will be able to re-sign both players again, though both are exploring other options in the meantime. Both Chavez and Davis were taken off the team's 40-man roster last week in order to open up space for the team to make a Rule 5 Draft selection or for a free agent acquisition.
