News: The Phillies invited infield prospect Jason Donald, left-hander Antonio Bastardo, right-hander Yorman Bazardo, outfielders Jason J. Ellison and Jeremy Slayden, and catchers Tuffy Gosewisch and Paul Hoover to spring training. Second baseman Marcus Giles and reliever Gary Majewski were also invited to camp.
Analysis: Donald is a solid shortstop prospect who clearly needs another position with Jimmy Rollins in his prime. Second base will be a tough one for him, too, because Utley won't be out long -- if at all -- once the season starts. Consider Donald a sleeper in NL-only and long-term keeper leagues on Draft Day. He could start at second base on opening day and perform well enough to become trade bait or even be a candidate for a move to third. The rest of these guys, save for the long-term prospects of Bastardo, are nothing more than organizational depth at this point. Ignore them on Draft Day right now
Barry M. Bloom and Marty Noble, of MLB.com, report Philadelphia Phillies SS Jason Donald has been receiving a lot of interest from other teams at the winter meetings, according to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr.
Philadelphia Phillies IF Jason Donald was named to the Arizona Fall League's top-prospect team, according to Todd Zolecki of The Philadelphia Inquirer. He finished second in the league in batting average (.407) and doubles (12), and third in slugging percentage (.747).
FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports Philadelphia Phillies IF Jason Donald is drawing significant trade interest.
The 2008 Stenson Sportsmanship Award winner, Donald was one of the best performers in the Fall League. In addition to excelling at the plate, he also showed the ability to play second base, shortstop and third equally well. With injuries to Chase Utley and Pedro Feliz clouding the Phillies' projected Opening Day infield, Donald's flexibility might come in handy soon.
