Cubs SP Jason Marquis struggled Tuesday against the Brewers after allowing no more than two runs in any of his last three starts. He allowed five runs and 10 hits in five innings while walking one and striking out two, losing for the first time this year.

Cubs SP Jason Marquis pitched seven strong innings Thursday against the Cubs, but was outdueled by Aaron Cook and did not factor in the 4-2 loss to the Rockies. Marquis kept pace with Cook (8 IP, 2 ER). After Colorado got two on in the second inning, Marquis gave up one more hit through the sixth and didn't let a runner get past first base. He allowed a leadoff walk to Matt Holliday in the sixth, but retired the next three batters before giving up Chris Iannetta's solo homer to start the seventh. Marquis allowed two runs, eight hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out four.

Jason Marquis got his first win of the season Saturday against Pittsburgh. Marquis (1-0) actually won for the first time since last Sept. 16, allowing a run and six hits while striking out seven. Marquis helped himself with an RBI double. "I work hard at it. It feels nice to contribute both ways," Marquis said.

Jason Marquis recovered from his illness well enough to hold the Phillies to two runs over 5.0 innings on Sunday. The right-hander made Cubs fans a little sick by adding in five walks (two intentional), hitting a batter, tossing a wild pitch, and throwing only 46 of his 86 pitches for strikes.Outings are rarely clean when Marquis is involved, but he managed to limit the damage this time around. Luckily, Marquis may be flying a bit under the radar because Rich Hill is having even worse troubles.

Manager Piniella is going to swap them in the rotation the next two days, assuming Marquis is well enough to pitch following a stint with the flu.Marquis notably had two strong starts against Pittsburgh early last season, and Piniella wants to use him in the rubber match of the series today.
