News: The White Sox completed a six-player trade with Atlanta on Thursday, sending right-hander Javier Vazquez and lefty reliever Boone Logan to the Braves for four prospects. The White Sox acquired catcher Tyler Flowers, infielders Jonathan Gilmore and Brent Lillibridge and left-handed pitcher Santos Rodriguez. Vazquez is under contract for $11.5 million in the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Analysis: Vazquez was 12-16 with a 4.67 ERA in 33 starts for the AL Central champions last season, surpassing 200 innings for the eighth time in nine years. One of baseball's more consistent bat-missers, he has struck out 200 batters in four of those seasons and will be a candidate to improve his numbers back in the NL with the Braves, who play in a suitable pitcher's park. We rank him just outside of the top 40 Fantasy starting pitchers to target on Draft Day, but he certainly has shown flashes of potential to perform even better

This is a significant win for Vazquez, who returns to the National League where he first rose to prominence. In 2003, he struck out 241 batters with a 3.24 ERA for the Expos. Vazquez should also benefit from spacious confines of Turner Field, which is considered more favorable to pitchers than U.S. Cellular Field. Never mind the underwhelming numbers (12-16, 4.67 ERA) he put together with the White Sox this past season. In Atlanta, the durable right-hander could enjoy his finest year since '03, even without the run support he received on the South Side.

The deal would return Vazquez to the National League, where he's enjoyed the majority of his success. What he'll miss most is the offensive support he received on the South Side, as Atlanta's lineup showed significantly less firepower following the loss of Mark Teixeira.

News: The Braves, in dire need for healthy veteran starting pitchers, have reached a tentative agreement to acquire right-hander Javier Vazquez from the White Sox in a six-player trade. The teams agreed to the trade Tuesday, two people familiar with the deal said. The 32-year-old right-hander must take a physical for the deal to be completed, one of the people said, and he was likely to be examined Wednesday. Atlanta, according to one of the people, agreed to send Chicago a package of four prospects, including power-hitting minor league catcher Tyler Flowers and shortstop Brent Lillibridge, among the organization's top stolen-base threats. The Braves also give up minor league third baseman Jon Gilmore and left-hander Santos Rodriguez. In addition to Vazquez, the Braves would acquire reliever Boone Logan, a 24-year-old lefty who was 2-3 with a 5.95 ERA in 55 games last season.
