Indians recall LHP Sowers to start Sunday
According to The Sports Xchange notes: The vacant spot in the Indians' rotation will be more permanently filled when it comes up again Sunday. Left-hander Jeremy Sowers is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Buffalo, and he would assume Jake Westbrook's (elbow) spot in the rotation. Sowers, who was unavailable for Tuesday's start because he had pitched Sunday in Buffalo, could remain in the rotation for a considerable period of time, depending on the seriousness of Westbrook's injury. The return of Sowers to the rotation means the Indians for the next few weeks at least will use a rotation that includes two pitchers, Sowers and Aaron Laffey, who began the season in the rotation at Buffalo. That leaves the organization with virtually no starting pitching depth at Buffalo should there be another injury in the big-league rotation.
The Cleveland Indians sent left-handed starter Jeremy Sowers back to Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday and called up infielder Michael Aubrey to make his big-league debut.
Indians option LHP Sowers to Triple-A
With the Indians coming off four shutouts in the last six games, SP Jeremy Sowers, called up earlier in the day to make his second start of the season, wasn't up to recent standards. He allowed three earned runs on five hits in five innings, walking two and striking out two. He didn't factor in the decision and has failed to beat the Reds -- the team that originally drafted him -- in four career starts, going 0-2 while allowing 19 earned runs in 20 innings.
Sowers called up to make spot start
Left-hander Jeremy Sowers was recalled by the Cleveland Indians to start Friday night's game in Cincinnati against the Reds. To make room for Sowers, the club designated outfielder Jason Tyner for assignment.
Report: Sowers likely to start Friday
Indians SP Jeremy Sowers was sent back to Cleveland's Triple-A team on Sunday, one day after making a spot start against the New York Yankees. Sowers pitched 5 1/3 innings and wound up with a no-decision as the Indians won 4-3. The left-hander, who was demoted to the minors last season after starting the year in Cleveland's rotation, was pleased with the performance in his short stint. "I did everything I could," said Sowers, who was beaten out for the No. 5 starter's job in training camp by Cliff Lee. "I was able to keep us in the game. I feel like I restored some of that lost confidence." To fill the roster spot, the Indians recalled OF Brad Snyder from Buffalo. He was batting .236 with four homers and 10 RBIs in 20 games for the Bisons. SP Aaron Laffey is expected to be recalled on Monday to start the finale of Cleveland's four-game series with New York.
