It took a rough patch from June-July and a trip down to Triple-A Syracuse before Litsch became a reliable option in the second half. Don't count on another sub-4.00 ERA next year, as Litsch strikes out too few batters for owners to rely on every fifth day.

BlueJays.MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports Toronto Blue Jays SP Jesse Litsch gained velocity late in the year because he began using a four-seam fastball. Earlier in the season, Litsch relied mostly on a cut fastball and the two-seam sinker, but he overhauled his approach during his brief stop at Triple-A Syracuse in early August. Litsch tends to average between 83-86 mph with the cutter and between 88-91 mph with the sinker. His four-seamer can clock in around 89-94 mph.

The Associated Press reports Toronto Blue Jays SP Jesse Litsch gave up one run and three hits in seven innings Sunday, Sept. 28, in a 10-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Litsch went 4-1 in September and finished with a 3.58 ERA.

News: Blue Jays SP Jesse Litsch picked up his 13th victory Sunday at Baltimore even though he spent part of the season in the minors. He allowed one run on only three hits, walking one and striking out five. The right-hander went 4-1 in September and finished with a solid 3.58 ERA. "It's good going into next year, not just for me but for all of us," Litsch said.

Analysis: Litsch doesn't look like he'll emerge as a big strikeout guy, but he clearly knows how to get outs, posting an ERA below 4.00 in each of his first two seasons. He's worthy of a late-round pick in all Fantasy leagues in 2009

Litsch finishes a stellar 2008 campaign having turned in quality starts in eight of his last nine trips to the mound en route to a 3.58 ERA and a 99/39 K/BB ratio over 176 frames of work. He'll be a sneaky late-round option come Draft Dray '09.
