R.B. Fallstrom, of The Associated Press, reports St. Louis Cardinals SP Joel Pineiro gave up three runs and three hits in seven innings Thursday, Sept. 25, to earn the win.
An impressive outing from Pineiro, who's been dogged by inconsistency throughout the 2008 season. Still, with back-to-back quality starts under his belt, Pineiro managed to salvage an otherwise brutal year that saw him register a 5.15 ERA and81 strikeouts over 148 2/3 innings.
Joel Pineiro held the Diamondbacks to three runs and three hits over seven innings in a win Thursday. The win was his first since Aug. 16. Pineiro finishes the first season of his two-year, $13 million contract at 7-7 with a 5.15 ERA. The Cardinals seemed to lose most of their faith in him during the second half and could seek to deal him this winter.
Thursday saw Joel Pineiro win his first game since August 16th. The Diamondbacks were his victim this day. He lasted seven innings, allowed three hits, two walks, seven strikeouts and three runs. Of note, is that he struck out Mark Reynolds for the 200th time this season.Pineiro finishes the season with a 7-7 record which is not reflective of his 25 starts. His ERA for 2008 is 5.15.
