Campillo surprised many in his rise from obscurity to that of a solid fantasy starter. Whether he can remain this effective over 200 innings remains unclear, but his demonstration of sound command suggests he's worth a flier in 2009.
News: Braves SP Jorge Campillo lasted only three innings in his final start Friday at Houston, allowing four runs on seven hits. He had zero walks and one strikeout. He finished the season with a 3.91 ERA, including a 4.91 mark in the second half.
Analysis: Campillo, a 30-year-old career who spent much of his minor-league career in the bullpen, clearly ran out of steam later in the season. He showed some potential to build off of, but you shouldn't expect him ever to become a Fantasy ace. He'll deserve a pick late in mixed leagues in 2009

Since NL hitters did seem to figure him out in the second half, he should have to fight for a rotation spot next spring.

Campillo's been uncharacteristically erratic of late, as he's failed to complete four full frames in two of his last three outings. That said, the 30-year-old righty delivered impressive numbers in his first full season as a starter, having gone 8-7 with a 3.91 ERA while fanning 107 batters over 158 2/3 innings of work.
