Gonzalez is closing in on 2,600 career hits and 600 doubles. The question now is where the left-handed-hitting outfielder will end up in 2009. Indications are that Gonzalez will sign elsewhere -- perhaps returning to Arizona, where he played from 1999-2006 and currently lives.
Bill Plunkett, of The Orange County Register, reports Florida Marlins OF Luis Gonzalez filed for free agency Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Luis Gonzalez is reportedly interested in returning to the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to the Arizona Republic. Gonzalez has said that money is not an issue, as he only made $2 million last year.Gonzalez had a good year for his role with the Marlins this season. He was a spot starter in left field, and Florida used him as a pinch hitter frequently as well. He would be a good pick up for Arizona, but probably not for your 2009 fantasy team.

Luis Gonzalez told the Arizona Republic that he wishes to return to the Diamondbacks as a free agent this winter. "I'm open to accepting whatever role necessary if the opportunity arises," he said. The Diamondbacks may want to add an outfielder after Eric Byrnes' disappointing and injury-plagued season, but they're going to need someone more versatile than Gonzalez.Source: Arizona Republic
