With J.D. Drew on the disabled list, Kotsay should see regular time with the Red Sox in right field and center field. The acquisition sends the signal that Drew could miss more than anticipated. Consider grabbing Kotsay in AL-only play, but his stats (.289 AVG, 6 HR, 37 RBIs, 2 SB) don't justify a pickup in standard mixed-league action

Red Sox acquired outfielder Mark Kotsay from the Braves for outfielder Luis Sumoza. Kotsay will join Boston on Wednesday, and will provide left-handed outfield depth down the stretch, especially with J.D. Drew dealing with a balky back. He agreed to waive his no-trade clause in exchange for a $325,000 bonus. The Red Sox figure to give him some starts in center field over Coco Crisp against right-handers for now.Related: Coco Crisp, Braves

Mark Kotsay will receive a $325,000 bonus for waiving his no-trade clause as he moves from the Braves to the Red Sox, according to FoxSports.com.So Kotsay goes from a bad team to one with legitimate World Series hopes and gets an extra $325,000 along the way. All in all, seems like a pretty good move, though his fantasy status will take a bit of a hit as he will not be an everyday player.

News: The Red Sox acquired OF Mark Kotsay from the Braves in exchange for OF Luis Sumoza on Wednesday.
Analysis: Kotsay is more of a defender than hitter and will work in a rotation with Coco Crisp and Jacoby Ellsbury between center and right field with J.D. Drew (back) on the DL. Kotsay will be nothing more than a deeper AL-only option down the stretch as a part-time player. Ellsbury won't sit very much, so Crisp might sit more

A source told Gordon Edes of Yahoo! Sports that the Red Sox have acquired Mark Kotsay for a minor league pitcher. The deal is pending a physical, but Edes doesn't seem to think there are any NTC issues that will cause a holdup. Kotsay has hit .289/.338/.418 this year, and he still plays a fair center field when his back is healthy. He'll be decent to have around as insurance if the Red Sox aren't giving up anything of consequence, but it's doubtful that Boston is looking at him as anything beyond a stopgap for the final five weeks.Source: Yahoo!
