Kemp continues to lock down starting job

Dodgers OF Matt Kemp had two hits, including a two-RBI single, and one run in five at-bats Tuesday against the Marlins. Kemp has now hit safely in five of the last six games (9-for-25). He has four multi-hit games, one homer and eight RBI in that span.

The Dodgers posted 10 runs in the first inning of Saturday's game against the Rockies and OF Matt Kemp played a huge part in that. Kemp drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly, then Mark Redman walked Andruw Jones with two out and the bases loaded. He then gave up a broken-bat, opposite-field single to rookie Blake DeWitt on an 0-2 pitch to bring home two more. Brad Penny lined an RBI single to center, Rafael Furcal doubled and Juan Pierre was hit on the right elbow, setting the stage for Kemp's first career grand slam to center field on Redman's 43rd pitch of the inning. Kemp finished the game 1-for-4 with the five RBI.

Dodgers OF Matt Kemp, who got a day off Sunday at Atlanta, returned to the lineup Monday at Cincinnati and went 2-for-5 with two doubles. He drove in a run and scored another, but he struck out three times.

Kemp also made a deft move to avoid a tag after he overran second base on Jeff Kent's first-inning hit and wound up reaching third safely on what was scored an error by Pirates 3B Jose Bautista for missing the tag. That was a key play in what became a four-run first inning for the Dodgers.

He hadn't been penciled in since April 9, a span of three games, and has been basically splitting time with Juan Pierre.The Dodgers logjam continues. Fantasy owners have to be patient with Kemp, who has the skills to produce excellent numbers if the Dodgers play him every day.

Matt Kemp will not be in the staring lineup for the Dodgers on Friday night as the Dodgers will go with an outfield of Juan Pierre, Andruw Jones and Andre Ethier, this according to the Los Angeles Daily News. And so it continues.It really serves no purpose to have Kemp on the bench, but the Dodgers have painted themselves into this corner by signing Jones and holding on to Pierre. Of course, Kemp hasn't exactly played well this season with only one RBI and nine K in eight games.

Matt Kemp will start in center field today against Arizona, according to the LA Daily News.He is hitting .273 over 22 at-bats, and he will start over Andruw Jones.

Matt Kemp is expected to return to the starting lineup on Tuesday, according to MLB.com. Manager Torre said he didn't want to bring back the slumping Kemp against veteran right-hander Dan Haren on Monday, and added, "You try to pick your spots to get them going and Haren is tough on right-handers. It's tough enough for veteran to work out of slumps. Young guys, they have a problem being patient. In Matt's case, I don't know him as well as I'm going to, but he seems very anxious. I base the decision on what I know and what I think I know. He's overswinging, jumping at the ball instead of letting the ball come to you. I talked to him today and told him he'd play tomorrow. He's going to get plenty of playing time. I told him to be patient with me. I think he understands. I'm not saying he agrees. He says he feels pretty good at the plate and I don't see that."Kemp holds a dismal .176 average over 17 at-bats, and will be looking to bounce back against D-Backs' starting pitcher Doug Davis.
