Amy K. Nelson, of ESPN.com, reports the Philadelphia Phillies are upset that only the starting lineup was announced before Game 1 of the World Series Wednesday, Oct. 22. "It's disappointing and some guys were extremely mad about it," OF Matt Stairs said. "I think it's bootleg when you have the World Series and guys are jogging out to the line and they don't take the extra five minutes to introduce the players."
John Nadel, of The Associated Press, reports Philadelphia Phillies OF Matt Stairs hit a two-run homer Monday, Oct. 13, during Game 4 of the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Matt Stairs hit a pinch-hit, two-run home run in the eighth inning to put the Phillies up 7-5 against the Dodgers. It was a lead they would not relinquish.Stairs hit the bomb off of Jonathan Broxton, which does not happen every day. It was the first postseason home run of Stairs' career.
Shane Victorino and Matt Stairs hit two-run homers in the eighth inning Monday to give the Phillies a come-from-behind 7-5 victory and a 3-1 series lead in the NLCS. Both starters lasted just five innings, with Joe Blanton giving up three runs and Derek Lowe two. The Dodgers went ahead 5-3 in the sixth thanks to some terrible pitching from Chad Durbin. However, Victorino tied the game with a two-run homer off Cody Wade in the eighth and Stairs added the second two-run blast of the inning off Jonathan Broxton. It was the first career postseason homer for the 40-year-old Stairs, who previously had one at-bat in the 1995 ALDS with the Red Sox and nine in the 2000 ALDS for the A's. The Phillies will try to clinch a World Series berth when Game 5 is played Wednesday. Cole Hamels and Chad Billingsley will start.
