Joe Frisaro, of MLB.com, reports Florida Marlins C Matt Treanor (hip) could be activated from the disabled list next week. Treanor ran the bases Wednesday, July 30, and will play with Single-A Jupiter Thursday, July 31. If he is able to return for the rest of the season he plans on undergoing surgery on three muscle tears in his hip in the offseason.
Matt Treanor noted that he plans to postpone surgery on his hip as he plans to play through the injury, according to the Miami Herald. He said, "I felt like the best thing to do was see if I could get through the season. The purpose isn't to get out there and see what I can do and hurt the ballclub. If I don't feel like, and the club doesn't feel like I'm going to be effective, they're not going to put me back out there."Treanor was told by a specialist that surgery was inevitable after an MRI revealed three muscle tears in his hip and pelvic region. But he will opt to postpone surgery, and he states that he may be able to return as soon as Tuesday when the club opens a series against the Phillies. The team may still add a catcher prior to the July 31 trade deadline.
