The Associated Press’ Bob Baum reports the Arizona Diamondbacks currently view SP Max Scherzer as their fourth starter for the 2009 season, according to Diamondbacks general manager Josh Byrnes. However, the GM also said the club might bring in another pitcher to give them more depth.

The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reports Arizona Diamondbacks SP Max Scherzer is done pitching in the Arizona Fall League. In his four starts, he went 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA allowing 16 hits, five walks and striking out 24 in 24 innings.

Max Scherzer is finishing with the Arizona Fall League after pitching seven innings on Thursday. The Diamondbacks had Scherzer take part in the AFL in order to boost his innings total for the year. Steve Conley, of MLB.com, reports Arizona Diamondbacks SP Max Scherzer struck out six hitters in seven strong innings in the Arizona Fall League Thursday, Oct. 23. He gave up just one run and three hits while walking one in his fourth start in the AFL. Scherzer has punched out 24 batters while walking five and posting an ERA of 3.38.
