It seems to make sense that, with the Rockies considering trades for Matt Holliday, they might be looking for another right-handed outfielder. But the report indicates that the talks between the two teams still appear to be in the very early stages.
Tracy Ringolsby, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports the Colorado Rockies might be interested in Minnesota Twins OF Michael Cuddyer.
The Twins and Rockies have had preliminary trade talks regarding Garrett Atkins, with Michael Cuddyer a possibility to go to Colorado in return. The Rockies would also surely want a quality young pitcher if they're going to take Cuddyer's salary. Cuddyer presumably would take over in left field for the Rockies with Matt Holliday apparently on the way out.Source: Rocky Mountain News Related: Rockies
Beat reporter Kelly Thesier of MLB.com thinks the chances of the Twins moving Michael Cuddyer back to third base in 2009 are "quite small." The Twins are expected to pursue a third baseman in free agency or on the trade market.Cuddyer tried his hand at third base in 2004 and 2005, but his bat suffered. The Twins have a glut of outfielders between Cuddyer, Delmon Young, Carlos Gomez, Denard Span, and Jason Kubel, which is why people are wondering if Michael would move back to the infield. One of these outfielder could become a trade chip in the pursuit of a third baseman.
It was a lost year for Cuddyer, who set career lows in games played (71) and almost every other area. As things stand, he'll have to fight for for one of three outfield spots with Carlos Gomez, Denard Span and Delmon Young.
