Jose de Jesus Ortiz, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Astros SS Miguel Tejada has been working out in Florida five days a week and is optimistic about the 2009 season. "This is going to be very good," Tejada said. "That's why I'm preparing well. It's not because I'm on a free agent year. Last year I worked hard too, but last year with all the things that happened off the field, it was a lot."
Astros.MLB.com's Alyson Footer reports Houston Astros manager Cecil Cooper said he's going to be more cognizant of giving players like SS Miguel Tejada more rest to stay fresh later in the year.
Tom Singer, of MLB.com, reports Houston Astros SS Miguel Tejada is interested in playing in the 2009 World Baseball Classic for the Dominican Republic.
Tejada hit the ground running in April (.339-4-22) before watching his power numbers go down the tubes (4 HR, 22 RBIs after All-Star break). Bump him down several notches on your 2009 shortstop list.
