Pelfrey proved to be an effective groundball pitcher, relying heavily on his sinker and the Mets infield to get by. However, his lack of strikeout stuff (4.93 K/9) limits his ceiling to that of a mid-rotation starter.

News: Mets SP Mike Pelfrey allowed three runs and eight hits in six innings Friday against the Marlins, falling to 0-3 over his last five starts. He recorded three strikeouts. "The difference was their guy made pitches when he had to, and I didn't do that," Pelfrey said.

Analysis: Pelfrey recorded a quality start in all but one of those five final starts, posting a 4.06 ERA. The 24-year-old made strides in his second full season, showing he has the potential to become a No. 2 or 3 option in Fantasy. You can probably get him late in 2009 drafts, though

Mike Pelfrey surrendered three earned runs over six innings as the Mets continued their free-fall with a loss to the Marlins on Friday. The offense is really at fault here. They managed just a single run on seven hits, led by Jose Reyes' 0-for-5 night. Pelfrey didn't walk a batter, but allowed eight hits, including a two-run homer to Josh Willingham. If the Mets don't reach the postseason, he'll finish up 2009 with a 13-11 record and a 3.72 ERA.
