News: Red Sox reliever Mike Timlin filed for free agency Tuesday. "We felt there would probably be better opportunity for him elsewhere," GM Theo Epstein said. "Carrying someone in the 'pen in addition to our top five guys, we'd probably want somebody a little younger with a little more projection left. Maybe there are internal candidates to take over the role, but we're also out there looking."
Analysis: Timlin is a veteran who is nothing more than a low-end middle reliever for the deepest of leagues that use true middle men. Ignore him at this point

Timlin's six-year run in the Boston's bullpen likely comes to an end. The sides seemed to come to an understanding that Timlin's time is likely up with the Red Sox, with general manager Theo Epstein saying on Monday that there was "a mutual understanding that Boston probably wouldn't be the best fit for him going forward, that there would be other places with greater opportunities."
