The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Bernie Miklasz reports St. Louis Cardinals SP Mitchell Boggs isn't ready to be a full-time rotation piece in 2009.
Nick Stavinoha has been recalled from Triple-A Memphis to join the Cardinals on Monday according to The Sports Network. He will take the roster spot of Mitchell Boggs.Don't expect him to stick around very long as the Cardinals will be bringing back Chris Carpenter on Wednesday. Stavinoha will likely have his roster spot taken away then.
The Sports Network reports that the Cardinals have optioned Mitchell Boggs back to the minors after making two appearances over the weekend against the Mets. He is 3-2 with a 7.41 ERA this season. The Cardinals recalled Nick Stavinoha to take his place. With Carpenter coming back Wednesday, Boggs may be in the minors until September.
Cardinals optioned RHP Mitchell Boggs to Triple-A Memphis. Boggs actually worked an inning Sunday, two days after he threw 95 pitches against the Mets. If that's the way the Cardinals want to handle him, he's better off in the minors. He's not an asset yet anyway.
Mitchell Boggs got rocked Friday, allowing six earned runs over 4 1/3 innings, as the Cardinals lost to the Mets. Boggs walked four and served up eight hits. He managed just one strikeout. On the bright side, it was an improvement from his last start where he allowed 10 earned runs to these same Mets. On second thought, there is no bright side. Boggs clearly doesn't belong in a major league rotation at this point. The Cardinals are far better off with Jaime Garcia.
