Fielder homers in second straight

On a day when he hit the ball hard five times, Prince Fielder's legs allowed the Brewers to salvage some momentum from a disappointing trip. Fielder scored the go-ahead run in the 11th inning on pinch-hitter Gabe Kapler's single, and the Brewers defeated the Nationals 4-3 Monday. "Prince just missed four homers. He almost had a four-homer day," manager Ned Yost said. "You add up his outs, and ... it could have been 1,500 feet." Fielder singled down the right-field line and was thrown out by Elijah Dukes trying to stretch the hit into a double, then flied out deep three times, including an eighth-inning sacrifice fly that put the Brewers ahead 3-2. Fielder led off the 11th with an opposite-field double to left against an exaggerated shift, then advanced on Corey Hart's sacrifice. After Russell Branyan struck out, Kapler lined the first pitch from Saul Rivera (3-2) to center for an RBI single.

Brewers 1B Prince Fielder ripped two singles and scored once in five at-bats Sunday against the Nationals. He extended his hitting streak to five games (7-for-21). However, he has zero homers and zero RBI in that span.

The Sports Xchange reports that Brewers 1B Prince Fielder, a left-handed hitter, has hit four of his five home runs this season off left-handed pitchers. The latest came Saturday off St. Louis LHP Ron Villone, who had not allowed a hit to a left-handed hitter this season.

Brewers 1B Prince Fielder and RF Corey Hart were held out of the starting lineup for the first time this season. Yost said he wanted them fresh with a weekend series against St. Louis coming up. Joe Dillon started at first and Gabe Kapler got the nod in right field.

According to the Sports Xchange notes: 1B Prince Fielder hit two home runs April 23 vs. Philadelphia LHP Cole Hamels but has just one homer in 41 at-bats since and none in his last 30 at-bats. Fielder led the NL with 50 home runs last year but has only four this season. His slugging percentage is down to .425.

Brewers 1B Prince Fielder had two singles and one walk in five at-bats Sunday against the Astros. Fielder finished the three-game series against the Astros 5-for-13 (.385). Fielder has zero homers and two RBI in his last seven games.
