Rafael Perez pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in a second straight game Thursday against the Tigers. Despite Masa Kobayashi's struggles again last night, the Indians brought Perez in during the seventh and again reserved Kobayashi for the ninth today. Rafael Perez was handed a loss on Sunday after allowing two runs in the top of the ninth inning against the Twins. Perez entered a 2-2 game and allowed a one-out double to Alexi Casilla and a two-out, RBI double to Justin Morneau. An intentional walk and an RBI single followed, giving the Twins a 4-2 lead. Perez bailed out assumed closer Masahide Kobayashi in for a save on Friday, but he couldn't keep the momentum going today. We'd assume Kobayashi will remain the closer for now, but Perez is close enough to the role that he needs to be owned in deeper leagues.

Kobayashi nearly blew a three-run lead, coughing up two earned runs on three hits before giving way to Perez. Kobayashi's job appears safe for now, but more outings like this could change matters.

Joe Borowski has likely lost his job as Indians closer, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. It is unknown who will take over, but a combination of Masa Kobayashi, Rafael Betancourt and Rafael Perez is possible.Borowski has been terrible as a closer and the Tribe simply could not afford to keep him there. Fantasy players shouldn't keep him around either, and even if he picks up a save here or there, he's already done enough damage to your team's ERA.
