News: Nate Schierholtz hit his first major league home run and Rich Aurilia and Scott McClain also homered to help the Giants rally from a three-run deficit to finally beat the Pittsburgh Pirates at home, 7-6 Saturday night. Aurilia homered on a 1-0 pitch off Maholm leading off the fourth, ending a streak of 23 consecutive scoreless innings thrown by Pittsburgh pitchers at AT&T Park dating back to last season.
Analysis: Aurilia is a solid option in deeper NL-only leagues, especially when he is going this well. One point of concern is he is a veteran the Giants might bench for younger players
News: The Sports Xchange notes that Rich Aurilia played third base on Friday, one game after rookie 3B Scott McClain had three hits and hit his first career homer.
Analysis: It might have showed the lack of interest the Giants have in the 36-year-old McClain in terms of their future. Aurilia batted third and went 2-for-4. Aurilia has pop in his bat and is a versatile infielder, but he is nothing more than a deeper NL-only option down the stretch
Aurilia improved his hit streak to four games with his second multi-hit effort in that time frame. The third baseman is a much better option on the road, where he is batting .297 vs. a .253 mark at San Francisco's AT&T Park.
News: San Francisco 3B Rich Aurilia batted third and Pablo Sandoval fourth for the first time this season. Sandoval hit his first career triple in the second.
Analysis: Aurilia has pop in his bat and is a versatile infielder, but he is nothing more than a deeper NL-only option down the stretch. He doesn't figure to enter spring 2009 with a chance to start at this point, but the veteran is a nice part of a 25-man roster
Giants.MLB.com's Chris Haft reports San Francisco Giants IF Rich Aurilia is hitting .326 with 27 homers and 94 RBIs at Great American Ball Park in his career.
