The teams played to a standstill through 10 innings thanks to a combination of good pitching and poor hitting. News: The Sports Xchange notes that Rich Aurilia played third base on Friday, one game after rookie 3B Scott McClain had three hits and hit his first career homer.

Analysis: It might have showed the lack of interest the Giants have in the 36-year-old McClain in terms of their future. Aurilia batted third and went 2-for-4. Aurilia has pop in his bat and is a versatile infielder, but he is nothing more than a deeper NL-only option down the stretch

Aurilia improved his hit streak to four games with his second multi-hit effort in that time frame. The third baseman is a much better option on the road, where he is batting .297 vs. a .253 mark at San Francisco's AT&T Park.
