Rich Hill pitched one-third of an inning on Tuesday, walking three and hitting a batter.This may be Hill's worst start yet. He has had nine days rest between each of his last two appearances and it appears that he may not make it back to the majors in 2008.

Cubs pitcher Rich Hill was placed on the seven-day disabled list at Triple-A Iowa with back spasms, according to the Chicago Tribune. Cubs manager Lou Piniella said Hills problems are more mental than physical. "I don't think it's serious," Piniella said. "Probably more of a mental break than anything, I'd assume. That's just my assumption. [The break] may not be bad. It might be the best tonic of all. But I haven't heard anything wrong of a serious nature, anything fundamentally wrong with his back."

The Chicago Cubs demoted left-hander Rich Hill to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, hours after he walked four batters and failed to survive the first inning. Manager Lou Piniella said Jon Lieber, who allowed five hits in 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in Friday night's 5-3, 11-inning loss to the Cardinals, would replace Hill in the rotation and start on Wednesday. Right-hander Sean Gallagher, 22, was recalled from Iowa.
