After spending most of 2007 sidelined by injury, Nolasco took no time getting into a rhythm on the hill, as he quickly emerged as Florida's ace. Whether logging roughly 200 innings more than he did a year ago results in wear and tear next year remains to be seen. That said, the 25-year-old Nolasco showed the poise and command of an ace this past season, and that shouldn't be taken lightly on draft day.

After spending most of 2007 sidelined by injury, Nolasco took no time getting into a rhythm on the hill, as he quickly emerged as Florida's ace. The one possible downside is whether logging roughly 200 innings more than he did a year ago results in wear and tear in 2009. That said, the 25-year-old Nolasco showed the poise and command of an ace this past season, and that cannot be ignored on draft day.

News: Marlins starter Ricky Nolasco struck out 10 batters in Saturday's loss at the Mets. He gave up just five hits and two earned runs while walking only one batter, but was on the short end of the stick on an afternoon in which Johan Santana threw a three-hit shutout.

Analysis: Nolasco pitched one of his better games of the season and just didn't get any run support. He finishes the season 15-8 with a 3.52 ERA and 186 K's. He only walked 42 batters all season and got over the 200-inning mark for the first time in his career. Nolasco has proven to be an ace for the upstart Marlins and will enter as one of the team's 200-plus-inning horses. Consider him a sleeper among the top 35 starters for Draft Day 2009 at this point

There's no other way to put it: Nolasco drew Johan Santana on the wrong afternoon. One of the surprise fantasy aces of 2008, Nolasco did Saturday what he's been doing all year. Namely frustrate and retire opposing hitters. He concludes the season with a 3.52 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 186 strikeouts. Add it all up and you have one of the premier starters in the game this year.
