Houston Astros minor league P Runelvys Hernandez has been suspended 50 games, for testing positive under baseball's minor league drug program, according to USAToday.com.

Because the minor league season is over, Hernandez, who was sent down by the Astros in July, will begin serving the suspension next year. Perhaps the free agent will consider signing with a team in Japan or Korea in order to avoid the suspension. He wasn't going to have much of a chance of making an MLB team next spring anyway.

Runelvys Hernandez has been sent down to Triple-A following four poor starts with the Astros. He had a 8.38 ERA and a 2.22 WHIP while going 0-3.He was sent down to make room for pitcher Roy Oswalt. If Oswalt were to go down yet again, he may get another chance to get hammered with the big league club.

Hernandez decent as Astros fall

A nice rebound effort for Hernandez, who was lit up by these same Pirates for 10 earned runs on 13 hits when he last took the hill on July 7. That blemish aside, the 30-year-old righty has been relatively reliable since rejoining the rotation on June 27, allowing three earned runs or less in three of his four starts. He's a decent spot-start option when he next toes the rubber, likely July 27 in Milwaukee.

Runelvys Hernandez will be recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in order to make the start on Monday against Pittsburgh, according to MLB.com.Hernandez has an unseemly 10.29 ERA in three starts this season and should not be considered for fantasy play.

The team recalled reliever Chad Reineke as the adjoining move.He was actually pleased to be sent down, as he expected to be waived after allowing 13 hits and 10 runs over a mere four innings on Tuesday against the Pirates.
