It raised his average to .244. "He's squaring the ball up a little better," manager Eric Wedge said. "He needs to be a run producer for us."

Garko looked to have turned the corner last month, when he posted a much-improved .265 average and plated 19 runs. He's been considerably less productive this month, though, as he's batting just .228 with two jacks and 10 RBIs through 57 at-bats. Despite his clear-cut potential, the third-year slugger should remain relegated to mixed-league action for the time being.

A huge day at the park for Garko, who entered Wednesday's contest with just one hit over his previous nine at-bats. Hopefully this can get the disappointing 27-year-old going, as he is only hitting .243 (10-for-41) for July.
