News: Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols won his second NL MVP award, powering past Philadelphia star Ryan Howard by a comfortable margin Monday. Los Angeles outfielder Manny Ramirez and Milwaukee pitcher C.C. Sabathia also drew strong support after being traded by AL teams in July. Pujols got 18 of the 32 first-place votes in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America and had 369 points. He added to the MVP award he won in 2005. Howard drew 12 first-place votes and 308 points. Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun was third with 139 points, with Ramirez fourth at 138. Houston's Lance Berkman was fifth and Sabathia sixth. Brad Lidge, perfect on 41 save chances for the Phillies during the regular season, drew the other two first-place votes and came in eighth. Voting was completed before the playoffs began.

Analysis: Howard led the majors with 48 homers and 146 RBI for the World Series champion Phillies. Howard got off to a slow start and was hitting under .200 toward the end of May. His best month came in September, when he set a team record with 32 RBI in the month and helped the Phillies rally to the NL East title. Howard won the NL MVP in 2006. Consider him a candidate to pick in Round 1 in leagues again, but you have to watch him in leagues that penalize strikeouts and a sub-.260 batting average

MLB has announced that Game 5 of the World Series will not resume until Wednesday because of continued bad weather in Philadelphia. Assuming things clear up a bit Wednesday, the game is scheduled to resume at 8:37 p.m. ET, with the score tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. "While obviously we want to finish Game 5 as soon as possible, the forecast for today does not allow for us to continue the game this evening," commissioner Bud Selig said. "We are closely monitoring tomorrow's forecast and will continue to monitor the weather on an hourly basis. We will advise fans as soon as we are able to make any final decisions with respect to tomorrow's schedule."Source: MLB.com

News: Phillies 1B Ryan Howard, in a horrible slump most of the postseason, broke out in a big way Sunday in Game 4 of the World Series against the Rays. He finished 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI.

Analysis: Despite batting .251, striking out 199 times and leading all first basemen with 19 errors, Howard entered the MVP discussion late in the season with freakish power and by driving in more runs than any other player in the majors. Howard led the majors with 48 homers and 146 RBI, three shy of his career-high 149 during his MVP season in 2006. He'll still likely go in the first round of most Fantasy drafts next year despite his obvious shortcomings
