That's back-to-back three-hit efforts for Theriot, who's clearly put behind him a chilly stretch that saw him go just 1-for-33 from Sept. 10-20. The quietly consistent infielder is batting .304 with 22 steals and 82 runs scored on the year.
News: Cubs manager Lou Piniella rested three regulars Tuesday night against New York Mets while vowing to put a competitive team on the field as Chicago prepares for the postseason. Third baseman Aramis Ramirez, catcher Geovany Soto and shortstop Ryan Theriot were out of the lineup one day after the Cubs secured home-field advantage throughout the NL playoffs with a 9-5 victory over New York in the opener of a four-game series. "We're just going to play as nice of a lineup as we can with the fact that we're going to do what's best for the Chicago Cubs also," Piniella said. "That's all."
Analysis: Theriot was a candidate to sit in the final Fantasy Week 26 (Sept. 22-28) anyway, especially since the clinched Cubs should rest some of their regulars for the postseason. He will get limited at-bats and doesn't figure to do much with them
News: According to The Sports Xchange notes: SS Ronny Cedeno played Sunday in place of Ryan Theriot, who is having a brutal September, reminiscent of last year. Theriot's on-base percentage had been .395 in late August, but it is down to .375. His batting average has fallen to .298 because of a September in which he has gone 11-for-60 (.183).

Ryan Theriot had two hits and knocked in his 37th run of the season on Thursday night for the Cubs in their 3-2 victory over the Cardinals.Theriot is hitting a strong .309 with 78 runs scored which has helped to offset a somewhat lower stolen base total this season of 21 (he had 28 last year). He offers no pop with only 19 doubles and one home run, but he offers enough in the average and stolen base categories to have value in mixed leagues.
Carrie Muskat, of MLB.com, reports Chicago Cubs SS Ryan Theriot (dehydration) is back in the lineup Tuesday, Sept. 9.
